Frequently Asked Questions
Golden Triangle Autism Center
Supporting Families with Compassion and Science-Based Care
Why is weekly parent training required?
Weekly parent training (1 hour per week) is essential to ensure your child makes consistent progress. ABA therapy is most effective when skills and strategies are reinforced across all environments, especially at home. Parent training gives you the tools to understand your child’s behavior, support skill development, and carry over techniques taught in therapy.
What is the attendance policy for parent training and therapy sessions?
Schedules are set and recur weekly. Regular attendance is crucial. Families are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, including parent training. Frequent absences or cancellations can interrupt progress and may affect your child’s placement in the clinic. We require advance notice for absences whenever possible.
Why is it important to follow procedures and strategies at home?
Consistency between clinic and home environments helps children learn faster and reduces confusion. When families follow behavior plans, reinforcement strategies, and communication systems at home, it strengthens the child’s learning and behavior change across settings.
What do you mean by “compassionate-focused service”?
We approach every child and family with empathy, respect, and understanding. This means we recognize your child’s unique strengths and challenges while creating a positive, trusting relationship. All interventions are delivered in a way that prioritizes your child’s emotional well-being and dignity.
What is a clinic-based service model?
Our services take place in a structured clinic environment designed to provide one-on-one support, group learning opportunities, and access to a range of materials and activities. This setting helps us control distractions and maximize learning opportunities while preparing your child for school or community settings.
What is a tiered clinical model?
We use a team-based approach where Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) supervise and guide a team of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs). Each child’s program is individually designed and overseen by their BCBA to ensure high-quality, ethical, and data-driven intervention.
Why don’t you start with difficult skills like toilet training right away?
Before introducing challenging goals, we focus on building a strong foundation. This includes establishing rapport, teaching your child how to learn, and developing instructional control (your child responding positively to guidance). Once these are in place, we can introduce more complex goals more effectively.
Why is communication and reducing behaviors the first focus?
Communication is the foundation for most learning and reduces many problem behaviors. We prioritize teaching children to request their needs (through speech, signs, or AAC) and reducing unsafe or disruptive behaviors. When children can communicate effectively, frustration decreases and learning improves.
Why is consistency so important in ABA therapy?
Consistency builds trust, understanding, and faster progress. When everyone (therapists, teachers, caregivers) uses the same strategies and expectations, children learn what to expect and how to respond. Inconsistent responses can lead to confusion, frustration, and slower progress.
What if my child uses a communication device (AAC)?
We strongly encourage families to use AAC systems consistently at home, in the community, and in therapy. These tools are essential for your child to express themselves and should be available and supported everywhere your child goes. We provide training to help you feel confident using these tools.
What kind of interventions do you use?
All interventions we use are based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and must be supported by scientific evidence. We do not use methods that are unproven or experimental. This ensures that your child receives the most effective and ethical treatment available.
Where is the clinic located?
Our clinic is located in West Point. We are committed to serving families in the surrounding community with accessible, high-quality ABA services.
